How We Build and Check Our Calculators

A calculator is only useful if you can trust the answer, so every tool on the site goes through the same steps:

  • The formula is written out on the page. Each calculator explains the method it uses, such as the reducing-balance EMI formula or the Mifflin-St Jeor equation for BMR, so you can see exactly how the answer is reached.
  • Worked examples are checked against the tool. The numbers in every example and table are recalculated independently and compared with what the calculator actually outputs.
  • Indian rules come from official sources. Tax, GST, PF, NPS and gratuity tools follow the rules published by the Income Tax Department, the GST Council, EPFO and PFRDA, and each page says which rules it uses and where to confirm them.
  • Limits are stated honestly. Where a tool simplifies something, for example by leaving out surcharge or senior-citizen exemptions, the page says so instead of hiding it.

Keeping Up With Rule Changes

Indian tax and savings rules change often, and an out-of-date calculator gives wrong answers. Recent updates include:

  • The GST Calculator uses the GST 2.0 slabs (5%, 18% and 40%, plus 3% for gold) in force since 22 September 2025, and shows CGST/SGST or IGST.
  • The Income Tax Calculator uses the New Regime slabs from the Union Budget 2025, including the rebate that makes taxable income up to ₹12 lakh tax-free.
  • The NPS Calculator reflects PFRDA's December 2025 exit rules, under which non-government subscribers need to annuitise only 20% of the corpus.

If you notice a rate or rule that has changed, please let us know and we will update the tool. See our Disclaimer for how to use the results.
