For the New Regime, it first subtracts a flat ₹75,000 standard deduction from your annual income, then applies slab rates of 0% up to ₹3,00,000, 5% from ₹3,00,000-₹6,00,000, 10% from ₹6,00,000-₹9,00,000, 15% from ₹9,00,000-₹12,00,000, 20% from ₹12,00,000-₹15,00,000, and 30% above ₹15,00,000, taxing only the portion of income that falls within each slab.

Under the Old Regime, no standard deduction is applied in this tool — your full annual income is taxed at 0% up to ₹2,50,000, 5% from ₹2,50,000-₹5,00,000, 20% from ₹5,00,000-₹10,00,000, and 30% above ₹10,00,000.

After computing the tax based on the applicable slabs, the calculator adds a 4% Health and Education Cess on top of that amount to arrive at your Total Tax Payable, matching how cess is applied to slab-based tax in India.
