It compounds your inflation rate over the given years using Future Cost = Amount × (1 + Rate/100)Years. Today's Value is calculated as the reverse: Amount divided by that same growth factor, showing what a future sum is worth in present-day terms.
Future Cost tells you how much more today's amount will cost after N years of inflation. Today's Value tells you the opposite - how much that same rupee amount, if received N years from now, is actually worth in current purchasing power.
A 0% inflation rate is accepted and simply returns the same amount for both results. However, Amount and Number of Years must both be greater than zero, and the inflation rate cannot be negative or left blank - otherwise the calculator shows "Invalid input!".
